In-Kind Giving and Targeted-Donations for the ministry of ABR:

Associates for Biblical Research depends upon many types of donations and a multitude of volunteers who generously give their time and talents to conduct the ABR ministry and fulfill our mission. If you know of supplies, equipment, or services that can be donated or offered at a reduced cost to further the work of ABR we would be very grateful. Please contact the ABR office at [email protected]

In-Kind donations or volunteer help is most needed in 2024 in two primary areas:

1) Join the Shiloh dig team this Summer from May 27 - June 15, 2024. See more details here. Dig volunteers are integral to the success of ABR’s efforts to do original research in the Holy Land, research that impacts students and scholars around the world. When a volunteer commits to the costs of his or her dig experience, it opens the door to worldwide impact for the cause of the Gospel and as a witness to the authority of the Word of God.

2) ABR’s home office needs help to improve its appearance and to make our very limited space more functional. There are a few ways you might consider helping ABR in this regard:

-Our home office is located in the small town of Akron in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The office needs to be repainted both indoors and out. Those who are local to our central PA region might consider this opportunity if you own a painting business or if your church has a men’s group with painting skills that might consider taking this on as a mission project.

-In addition to painting, there are some carpentry needs that skilled helpers could provide to improve the ABR entrance and our interior office layout, including shelving. ABR also needs to construct a small recording studio for various broadcasting needs.

-The home office is also seeking to replace and update our current interior light fixtures with improved equipment. This project has been started but needs additional help and expertise.

Other office supplies and equipment donations needed:

-Lighting and Audio equipment for our recording studio

-A laptop donation for a new staff position working with our digital and print publications

-A digital camera for our media and marketing staff

Our Shiloh Excavation and Khirbet el-Maqatir publications:

The best way to help with the tangible equipment needs for our dig at ancient Shiloh is to make a cash donation with clear instructions on how you would like your gift to be used. The dig requires regular purchases of equipment like wheel-barrows, pottery buckets, custom-built sunscreens, various digging tools, gloves, bags, and occasional technology needs (IPads). Specifications will be provided upon request.

Donations to help underwrite the cost of our professional publication of the two-volume Final Reports of our many years of excavations at Khirbet el-Maqatir (our candidate for the Conquest city of Ai) would be greatly appreciated. ABR is currently under contract with ArchaeoPress in Oxford, England for this publication; we expect to have all our reports and research to the publisher no later than the end of March of 2021. Your donations toward this major expense will help us stay on schedule to complete this essential step in our efforts to testify to the historical reliability of the biblical Conquest accounts.

Support ABR through an IRA Distribution

The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (ATRA) has extended the qualified charitable distribution (QCD) provisions for 2012 and 2013. A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is an otherwise taxable distribution from an IRA (other than an ongoing SEP or SIMPLE IRA) owned by an individual who is age 70½ or over that is paid directly from the IRA to a qualified charity. An IRA owner can exclude from gross income up to $100,000 of a QCD made for a year, and a QCD can be used to satisfy any IRA required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year. Also, the amount of a QCD excluded from gross income is not taken into account in determining any deduction for charitable contributions. This Act authorizes an individual with a traditional IRA and who has attained the age of 70½, or older, to satisfy their required minimum distribution for 2013 by having their IRA trustee issue a check directly to a qualified charitable organization from their IRA. Such a distribution does not increase your taxable income as a normal distribution would nor can it be taken as a charitable deduction against your taxable income. The advantage is that the amount can be included in your required minimum distribution. Should you wish to contribute to A.B.R. in this manner, Associates For Biblical Research is recognized by the U. S. Internal Revenue Service as a 501(3)c charitable organization. Just indicate to us that the amount is a direct distribution from your IRA account. For further information check the IRS website www.irs.gov enter QCD in the search box or speak with your tax advisor. Please feel free to contact ABR Director, Scott Lanser at [email protected]
