Dr. Mark A. Hassler

Dr. Mark Hassler works as an area supervisor for the Shiloh excavations and editor in chief of Bible and Spade magazine. He teaches Old Testament at Lancaster Bible College. Dr. Hassler completed his academic degrees at The Master’s Seminary (PhD, ThM, MDiv) and Montana Bible College (BA). He has excavated at Shiloh, Khirbet el-Maqatir, and the Mount Ebal sifting project. He is the current vice president of the Near East Archaeology Society and has completed two terms as president of the Evangelical Theological Society’s eastern region (2021–2023). Formerly, he served as editor of the Near East Archaeological Society Bulletin and has coedited The Excavations at Khirbet el-Maqatir: 1995–2001 and 2009–2016 (vol. 2). His current projects include books titled Scripture in Its Material and Literary Context: Historical, Cultural, and Archaeological Correlations (T&T Clark, forthcoming) and Readings in the Primary Biblical Languages: Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, and Latin, coauthored with Craig Evans.
