The results of a salvage excavation in July–August 2019 at Zanoah were recently published by the journal Hadashot Arkheologiyot: Excavations and Surveys in Israel. Artifacts from three different time periods were unearthed in a row of squares along several walls. Late Iron Age pottery sherds, as well as a jar handle stamped with lmlk (“to the king”) and dating to the same period were discovered. Coins and pottery from the Second Temple period were also found. The majority of the pottery at the site, however, dated to the early Byzantine period, as did some glass shards and additional coins. Zanoah is mentioned a couple times in Joshua 15 and then in Nehemiah 3:13 and 11:30
