Tel Shiloh is located about 25 miles (45 kilometers) north of Jerusalem. It was settled by the Amorites (of the hill country – Num. 13:29) in the Middle Bronze Age as an unwalled village. Soon they the people of Shiloh built a stone fortification wall around their village, enclosing an area of 4.25 acres.
From a biblical perspective, Shiloh is best-known for being the place where the Tabernacle stood for over 300 years. The Israelites arrived at Shiloh in the Late Bronze Age to set up the Tabernacle and began offering sacrifices to the Lord there. Then the whole congregation of the people of Israel assembled at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there. (Josh. 18:1)
