"GO NOW TO MY PLACE THAT WAS IN SHILOH, WHERE I MADE MY NAME DWELL..." Jeremiah 7:12
The Shiloh Excavation is one of ABR’s most important research projects. The Tabernacle stood at Shiloh for 300 years, where the people of Israel gathered to worship. This is where the Ark of the Covenant resided! We have a number of core goals for the Shiloh dig:
- Investigate the location of the biblical tabernacle and any associated structures.
- Uncover evidence of the biblical sacrificial system.
- Understand daily life in Israel at the time of the Conquest and the period of the Judges.
- Introduce the new technologies of wet-sifting and computerization in the field.
- Equip students and volunteers with the knowledge and skills needed to scientifically excavate in the Land of the Bible.
- Build on the regional understanding of life in the Highlands of Israel gained by ABR's previous excavations at Khirbet Nisya (1979-2002) and Khirbet el-Maqatir (1995-2016).
12/03/20 UPDATE
Letter to Dig Team
Hi ABR Dig Team and Volunteers,
I am concerned that Israel will not allow anyone into their country in the coming months without proof of vaccination or evidence of COVID-19 antibodies. If this is the case, some of you may refuse to be vaccinated, and thus, unable to excavate this summer. Others may be vaccinated as long as the vaccination does not have stem cells from aborted babies. It is our understanding that only the Astrazenica vaccination has this objectionable ingredient. Vaccinations will likely begin in the U.S. before Christmas for front-line workers, nursing home residents, and people over 80 years of age. From there, it will work its way through the U.S. population over the next few months.
Because of these circumstances, we have moved the dates back six weeks. Here is the new schedule:
Pre-dig tour - June 27 (Sunday) to July 4 (Sunday)
Sunday, July 4 - Set-up day
Week 1 - July 5–10
Week 2 - July 12–17
Week 3 - July 19–24
Week 4 - July 26–31
Week 5 - August 2–7 (Restoration Week)
Post-dig tour - July 31 (Saturday) to August 7 (Saturday)
We wanted you to know about this change as soon as possible so that you could plan appropriately. We are on the verge of important discoveries at Shiloh. Please pray for wisdom as we navigate through these most unusual times.
Digging the Bible!
